On New & Paused Projects

It’s incredible how much can change and evolve in just a few months.

I’m still, shall I say – “shackled” to my current role in my organization. There is a slim – and I cannot emphasize how “slim” – the possibility of that changing is but – there is a slim chance for a change.

Even MORE exciting is that I was recently called off the bench for help on another team.

They lost a team member and quickly became swamped. I was asked to jump in and see how I could help out. That was maybe a little more than a month ago.

Let’s just say I’ve been moving fast ever since and I love it.

Hours are long but time flows fast.

This is NOT to say the Manager and other team members HAVEN’T been pulling their weight – there’s simply too much to do, not enough parallelization & streamlined processes in place and not enough hands and time to do it all at pace.

It’s deeply rewarding to work on things people want and need done (and constantly being thanked for your hard-efforts up and down reporting lines; I genuinely can’t remember being thanked so profusely by C-Levels) versus trying to sway people to involve your skills and toolsets in their everyday business. Despite them swearing up and down how valuable both you and your skills are and benefits you provide them. What a hollow feeling those statements have now.

It’s truly a strange juxtaposition to me.

What’s the work? Mobile Engineering. It’s a lot of smartphone and tablet OS and Application management and deployment architecture strategy for iOS and Android.

It’s super cool; I follow a lot of the mobile space in my free time. I’m pretty strong on the iOS, iPadOS, and macOS-side of the house. I’m a little weaker on the Android ecosystems but I’m catching up faster than I thought I would.

On paused projects – I also helped get a new podcast off the ground but because of other priorities and the amount of time I’ve not had to sink into it to keep it going weekly (as no one else has the bandwidth either; no shame; no blame) – its kind of on hiatus which is a bummer but its ok to put a hold on things that need it.

I’m looking forward to the end of summer and the start of Fall when I might be able to share a bit more of where I am on some active critical projects and progress I’ve made with some of the work I’m helping out with.

Stay tuned.
