Personal Mobile Operating Tools – 2019 Edition

I love being and feeling productive.

That scratches such a psychological itch or fulfillment for me its difficult to describe, suffice to say that it makes me feel great.

In the spirit of being productive I thought I might share some of my toolset that helps me in that mission – since its the end of 2019; beginning of 2020. I’m very interested in what this will look like in 3, 5, 7 years or so.

Now, this is not a “comprehensive” list (I’ll probably need a few articles to do that) but a piece of my overall toolset – specifically my purely mobile toolset.

Platform

Apple iPhone
* iOS has been responsible for significantly simplifying some of my technical make up. Operating Systems are a personal choice, Mobile Operating Systems; even more so. I’ve used both and while much of the hardware and open-ended solutions powering today’s Android ecosystem is extremely temping I continue to come back to iOS’ simplicity, privacy and protection for myself and most of my recommendations.

Apps

* Front Page
* Dark Sky – Weather with near real-time localized notifications. Data powers many other modern Weather applications.
* Apple Maps – It does what I need it to do; Google Maps has more stuff but for day-to-day; this is more than sufficient.
* Narwhal – Reddit Client
* Twitter – Native App
* “Social” Group – Tools around being communicative
* SnapChat
* Instagram
* Discord
* WordPress
* “Photo & Video” Group – Tools around visual mediums
* Photos – Library & Editing Control
* Moment – Specific Photography App
* ZY Play – Gimble Control

* Clips – Like Snapchat abilities without SnapChat
* DJI GO – Pilot Control
* PhotoPills – Photography Assistant
* “Business” Group – A TON of Business/Productivity stuff in here – I’ll note the highlights
* VPN – I’ve got a few.
* Uptime Robot – I love this monitoring service. If you’re really not sure how serious you need to be about external monitoring this is a fantastic option. They have a free tier with FIFTY available monitors at 5-minute intervals with almost all the features you would want.
* Webex – Team Communication
* OmniFocus – Project & Task Management
* Dropbox – File Access & Sharing
* PingPlotter – In lieu of a native terminal being on iOS – this is great too for running ping tests
* Prompt – The BEST SSH client for iOS from the great folks over at Panic Inc.
* Scanbot – My favored Scanning & OCR application.
* PCalc – If I could replace the native calculator with it – I would.
* Calzones – If you deal with people, teams, and calendars across multiple timezones – this makes scheduling way easier and sometimes; that makes a big difference in scheduling efforts.
